Facebook will begin rolling out a Coronavirus (Covid-19) Information Center at the top of users’ News Feeds to present the latest news and information about the pandemic, as well as resources and tips for remaining healthy and supporting family and community.

The Coronavirus Information Center will include real-time updates from national health authorities and global organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, as well as articles, videos and posts about social distancing and preventing the spread of Covid-19.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during a press call Wednesday that the company is coordinating with governments around the world on the types of messages that should be pushed out.

He added that some of the content will be aimed at “encouraging people to take the social distancing order seriously, especially those who feel like they’re not at risk,” and it will come from public health experts, celebrities and journalists.

Facebook will roll out the Coronavirus Information Center in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S. within 24 hours, with plans to expand it to more countries in the coming days. Zuckerberg added, “The goal is to have it out very widely.”

Users will be able to follow the Coronavirus Information Center to receive relevant updates from health authorities in their News Feeds.

And in a feature that will start out in the U.S., people will see ways to connect with local groups and ask for or offer help within their communities.

Zuckerberg said, “We’ve had a Community Help feature that we’ve rolled out in other disasters in the past, like if there’s a hurricane. We’ve never had to do it at a scale that we’re talking about doing here for everyone basically across the whole community at the same time, but we’re going to move forward with that in the next few days, as well.”

He added that Facebook is designing the Coronavirus Information Center to be” very adaptive on a day-to-day basis,” and ensuring that it varies by location.
