Execution Labs Raises $6M to Help Growth of Game Studios

Execution LabsGame accelerator and investment platform Execution Labs has announced it has secured CAD $6 million in Series A funding, in a round led by Toronto-based Corus Entertainment Inc. Existing investors BDC Capital, Real Ventures and White Star Capital also participated in the round. This funding will help Execution Labs expand its presence and existing services by now offering independent game developers two different programs: the Pre-Production Accelerator and the Finishing Fund.

The Pre-Production Accelerator builds upon the company’s current program by offering CAD $50,000 in funding to developers in a three-month program, alongside a shared workplace and mentorship opportunities for game studios that have yet to enter the full production phase of their game’s development. The program is accepting applications from international developers, and has expanded beyond just accepting mobile developers, to also include developers across “all game platforms and business models.”

Meanwhile, the Finishing Fund will give substantial funding (up to CAD $250,000) to independent game studios when their games are at least 80 percent complete. Using this funding, developers will be able to put the finishing touches on their products and implement testing and marketing strategies going forward. In this program, Execution Labs would offer developers assistance ranging from helping with the final game design to data analysis and user experience testing of the finished product.

“The goal of Execution Labs has always been to foster the development of independent game studios, and with the support of our incredibly generous mentor network we’ve been able to help talented developers launch great games and then go on to set up sustainable studios.” said Jason Della Rocca, co-founder of Execution Labs, in a statement. “With the injection of funds from Corus and our existing partners, we’ll be able to keep fueling those new studios while ensuring that the top developers out there continue to get the funding and support they need to launch amazing new games.”
