Even Martha Stewart Isn't Safe From Bedbugs... In A Way
Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is being sued by JAB Distributors LLC for allegedly infringing on a patent for “Protect-A-Bed” mattress covers through the distribution of its Martha Stewart Collection Allergy Wise Mattress Protector. JAB filed its complaint last week in a Chicago court.
According to Bloomberg, the company has taken issue with several of MSLO’s product’s design features, which, it claims, bear striking similarities to its own patented merchandise:
The JAB patent, issued in June 2009, is for a “bug-impervious fabric” with a zipper opening for removal of the mattress and a foam pad at the end of the zipper so the bedbugs can’t escape from that opening.
