Green was red-hot on Facebook and Instagram in March, as St. Patrick’s Day was the hottest Hot Topic on the two platforms, according to Facebook IQ, the social network’s research arm.

Women’s History Month was also a strong performer in the holidays and events category on both platforms, while Instagrammers were also looking to get a jump on Mother’s Day.

In the people category, the late Luke Perry led Facebook and Instagram last month, with Facebook users also chatting up Alex Trebek, while Martin Luther King Jr. spurred conversation on Instagram.

Game of Thrones and Dumbo heated up both platforms in the entertainment category in March.

Even with the start of the Major League Baseball season in March, it was the National Football League that spurred conversation on Facebook, with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. and Le’Veon Bell leading the sports category on Facebook. Meanwhile, Instagram sports fans talked about soccer superstar Lionel Messi and the National Basketball Association’s Chris Bosh.

In the brands and products category, LinkedIn, PlayStation and League of Legends heated up Instagram in March, while people on Facebook discussed Tetris and the Humane Society of the United States.

Finally, in the food and drink category, Instagram users gulped down mozzarella and mojitos last month, while Spanish food and sparkling wine were on the menu for Facebookers.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
