eReader Shipments Grow 108% in 2011

According to a new report from IHS iSuppli shipments of pure-play eReaders will reach 27.1 million units this year, which 108 percent from the 13 million that shipped in 2010.

According to the report, the growth comes as device makers like Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Kobo are pushing their low cost touchscreen eReaders. According to the report, this growth will taper off in the coming years, as color tablet screens dominate.

iSuppli’s report explains: “… while shipments will continue to increase during the next few years, the expansion of the pure ebook market will slow drastically.
