Emerging Top Paid iOS Apps: Zombies, Zombies and More Zombies

Unsurprisingly for a chart sampling taken on Halloween, zombies proved the theme to beat for paid apps this week. Mika Mobile, Motion Portrait and PadWorx Digital Media were all able to take advantage of the season and get their zombie themed offerings on the charts, but new games from Gameloft and Vector Unit also did well this week, despite not including any undead. New Titles on the Top iPhone Paid Apps List Zombieville USA 2 - Independent developer Mika Mobile’s sequel Zombieville USA 2 takes the coveted #1 spot on the paid app charts this week. The $0.99 game is a cartoonish shooter where players pick a character, arm them with weapons like shotguns and flamethrowers, and kill lots of zombies. The new version of the game adds Game Center achievements and leaderboards, iCloud support and allows players to play cooperatively over bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Zombieville USA 2 was released on October 27th, and the original ZombieVille USA is currently #44 on the paid charts. Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation - Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation makes a strong debut in the #13 spot this week. The third installment of Gameloft’s popular first-person-shooter title moves the action close to home, putting players in the middle of an apocalyptic battle for the freedom of the USA. The game features both a solo mode and multiplayer mode where players can challenge up to 11 others on six multiplayer specific maps. Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation was released on October 27th, and despite the $6.99 purchase price also monetizes through in-app purchases. Battery Boost Magic App - Moving down to the #26 spot is Heavy Duty Apps popular utility Battery Boost Magic App. For $0.99 users get a handy utility that ensures every time their device is charged, it does so in a specifically designed sequence of fast charge, trickle charge and top-off, which helps maximize battery life and performance. The app also includes a detailed current charge display and battery care tips. Battery Boost Magic was last updated on October 25th. CHIVE Pro - Internet photo sharing and aggregation site The Chive has released a new version of their app that’s been redone from the ground up. Fans of the site who purchase the $0.99 The Chive Pro app can now watch videos, get hourly updates and see high res image galleries without advertisements. The app is credited to Resignation Media and is currently in the #42 spot on the paid app charts. ZombieBooth: 3D Zombifier - Finally sitting at #46 is the seasonally appropriate photo manipulation app, Zombie Booth: 3D Zombifier. Created by prolific Japanese developers Motion Portrait, ZombieBooth lets users upload their photos and turn themselves and their friends into zombies that come alive with animations and sounds. There are over 50 zombie variations to choose from and once satisfied with their transformation, users can share videos of their creations on YouTube and Facebook, and share photos via email, Facebook or Twitter. ZombieBooth: 3D Zombifier was updated on October 25th and costs $0.99. New Titles on the Top iPad Paid Apps List Civilization Revolution for iPad - Older game Civilization Revolution for iPad sees new life this week, climbing all the way up into the #9 spot on the paid charts thanks to a massive sale from developer 2K Games that has discounted the game to $1.99 for Halloween. As with the desktop version, in the game players must build a civilization from the ground up, discovering new territory and conquering their opponents to become the sole masters of the planet. In the iPad version players can choose from one of 16 different civilizations and use the World or Scenario Creator tool to customize the game to engineer specific challenges and game types. Civilization Revolution for iPad was last updated on August 10, 2010. Thomas & Friends: Day of the Diesels - Next up in the #12 spot is the brand new Thomas the Tank Engine book, Thomas & Friends: Day of the Diesels. On sale for $0.99 until November 6th, the book features narration, interactive puzzles and games, optional word highlighting and full CG animation. Thomas & Friends: Day of the Diesels was released on October 28th by Callaway Digital Arts, who recently announced Rex Ishibashi had been appointed as the company’s new CEO. Riptide GP - California based developers Vector Unit make an auspicious mobile debut with this week’s #22 paid app Riptide GP. The $2.99 game is a futuristic jet ski racer that takes players through 12 twisting courses in three gameplay modes: race, hot lap and championship. Players can compete with one another to earn both Game Center and OpenFeint achievements, post their best times to leaderboards and race against their friend's OpenFeint split times. Vector Unit were formerly an Xbox Live exclusive developer and Riptide GP was released for both iOS and Android on October 27th. Trivial Pursuit Master Edition for iPad - Moving down to #37, we find Trivial Pursuit Master Edition for iPad. Released on October 27th, EA Mobile’s Trivial Pursuit is a digital version of the popular game than completely replace the physical version. In Table Top mode players roll the dice by swiping and move around a digital board, but the game also includes the new, faster paced pursuit mode and allows players to track stats, create a custom profile and set personalized difficulty levels. Trivial Pursuit Master Edition for iPad costs $4.99. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Interactive eBook - Finally squeezing into our roundup in the #49 spot is Quirk Books’ re-imagining of the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Expanded from the original print version with more zombies scenes, an original music score, sound effects, and illustrations, the app allows users to choose which version of the story they’d like to read. When holding the app right-side-up, users get the undead version of the tale, holding it upside-down allows them to read the original book, and by turning the iPad on its side readers can see both books, allowing them to compare the original to the remake. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Interactive eBook was developed by LA/Toronto based digital book developers PadWorx Digital Media, and is currently on sale for $4.99.
