Emerging popular Android apps: Rage of Bahamut, Hambo and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline

For the fourth week in a row, DeNA's Mobage hit Rage of Bahamut leads our Android app roundup. Keen to replicate its Android success, the company has finally brought the game to iOS, but its still known if the title will be as popular on Apple's platform. Aside from DeNA's chart-topper, Glu Mobile had a successful week, scoring not one, but two games on our weekly roundup of top grossing apps thanks to strong performance from its titles Stardom: The A List and Lil' Kingdom. This week’s top grossing Android apps Rage of Bahamut -- DeNA’s card-battle hit appears to be firmly entrenched in the No. 1 spot and unwilling to go anywhere for the fourth week in a row. The app has been the top grossing Android app since April 26 and shows no sign of slowing down with installs maintaining a steady pace, according to the app’s Google Play listing. The game is also light on technical requirements, only requiring Android 2.0 and up. Temple Run -- Imangi Studios’ iOS hit Temple Run lands at No. 12 on the top grossing Android charts this week. The app was last updated on May 17 to fix compatibility issues with Android 4.x ICS devices and other improvements. Stardom: The A-list -- Glu Mobile’s female-focused Stardom: The A List experiences a major surge in popularity this week, climbing No. 19 on the top grossing charts. The game has been installed over 1 million times, and was updated on May 18 with new Superhero movie content, new clothing and new high-level quests for advanced players. Lil’ Kingdom -- Glu Mobile pops up again on the top grossing chart with its new game Lil’ Kingdom. Already installed more than 500,000 times since its release a month ago. The fantasy-themed Tiny Tower style title is currently No. 32 on the top grossing app charts. Dream Heights -- Another Tiny Tower influenced title closes our our top grossing Android App roundup in No. 40. Zynga’s Dream Heights was last updated on May 15 allowing users to add their Facebook friends as tower residents. The developer also added two new restaurants and rolled out some minor bug fixes. The game has been installed over 1 million times but the rate of installs appears to be dropping off according to the game’s Google Play listing. This week’s top free Android apps Street View on Google Maps -- Utilities dominate the free Android app charts this week. Google’s official app, Street View on Google Maps takes the No. 1 spot. The app has been installed over 100 million times. Logo Quiz -- Independent developer J-roen takes the No. 14 spot with its app Logo Quiz. The game is a simple one that challenges players to identify a company or brand based on its logo. The game’s Google Play listing states J-roen is currently working on an expansion for the app that will have stages, clues and prizes for users to win. Basketball Shoot -- Runnergames makes an appearance on our free app chart this week in the No. 15 spot with its newest offering Basketball Shoot. The game challenges players to make baskets by adjusting the power and angle of a basketball. Hambo -- Moving down to No. 26 on the free Android app charts we find MiniClip’s Hambo. The arcade-style action title has already racked up over 1 million installs and shows no sign of slowing down. Hambo comes with over 200 levels, 5 mission packs, and 20 collectible costumes. Friends can also compete head to head through the game’s leaderboards. Gold Miner -- Candy Mobile closes our free Android charts with the No. 30 ranked Gold Miner. The app has already been installed more than 1 million times since its release less than a month ago. This week’s top paid Android apps Mini Motor Racing -- We start off this week’s roundup of the top paid apps with The Binary Mill’s racing game Mini Motor Racing. Coming in at No. 11, the $1.99 game made its debut on May 11. The game supports 4 player multiplayer over Wi-Fi, over 20 tracks, multiple race types and includes some cross-promotional launch bonuses like themed tracks and cars with a Fruit Ninja theme. Minecraft - Pocket Edition -- Mojang’s Minecraft - Pocket Edition continues to be as popular as ever, despite its $6.99 price tag. This week the game is the No. 12 most popular paid Android app. Asphalt 6: Adrenaline - Gameloft’s mobile answer to console racers like Gran Turismo is this week’s No. 36 paid Android app, the $0.99 game Asphalt 6: Adrenaline. The game offers virtual racers 42 cards, 6 player local and online mutiplayer, 11 leagues and 55 different races to master. The app has been installed more than 100,000 times since its release. Scramble With Friends -- Zynga makes a second chart appearance this week at No. 41 on the paid app charts. The $0.99 version of its game Scramble With Friends was last updated on May 16 with improved notifications. NBA JAM by EA Sports -- Last, but not least, EA’s NBA JAM closes our our weekly Android roundup by grabbing the No. 44 spot on the paid Android App charts. A faithful port of the classic 90’s Super Nintendo game, the new version of the game costs $4.99 and includes the voice of Tim Kitzrow, the original NBA JAM play-by-play announcer.
