Emerging popular Android Apps: Airport City, Ninja Chicken and They Need to be Fed

Although the Android Marketplace may have rebranded as Google Play, aside from a minor redesign, not much has changed on the Android charts. Games were by far the most popular type of app this week, with OMGPOP’s Draw Something performing as strong on Android as it had on iOS. This week’s top grossing Android apps Draw Something - OMGPOP continues its dominance of all things mobile this week, with the $0.99, paid version of Draw Something taking the No. 3 spot on the top grossing charts and the No. 1 spot on the free and paid charts. The social drawing game has been downloaded more than 20 million times since its release and so far, shows so signs of slowing down. Stardom: The A-List - Glu Mobile holds the No. 5 spot on the top grossing Android charts this week with its free-to-play title Stardom: The A-List. The game has been installed more than 500,000 times since it was released on Android. Airport City - The latest citybuilding title from Game Insight grabs the No. 9 spot on the top grossing charts this week. Airport City challenges players to build a modern airport, manage flights and collect items from all over the world. In less than a month the game has been downloaded more than 1 million times. It was last updated on March 12 to reduce the price on certain buildings. Paradise Island - Game Insight makes our list again with its Android chart mainstay Paradise Island. This week’s No. 15 top grossing app, the game was updated on March 15 to add St. Patrick’s Day content. Slotomania - Israeli developer Playtika closes our our top grossing charts in the No. 16 spot with Slotomania. The free-to-play slot machine game monetizes through in-app purchases of virtual currency. The game allows players to send free gifts, spins and in-game currency to their friends and now includes more than 20 different, lighthearted, cartoony slot machines after a March 9 update added one more. The game has been a solid hit on both iOS, Android and Facebook now. This week’s top free Android Apps Skater Boy - Independent developer Runnergames kicks off our free Android charts with its sidescrolling title Skater Boy in the No. 4 spot. Although the game has been installed more than 5 million times it hasn’t been updated since its Feb. 27 release. Ninja Chicken - MoMinis earns a No. 6 spot on the free Android charts for its game Ninja Chicken. The 2D platformer follows the adventures of a chicken, which thanks to an unfortunate accident, comes to believe he is a ninja. The game features 30 levels and was last updated on March 11. Angry Birds Seasons - Where would the Android charts be without at least one Rovio game? This week the developer nabs the No. 19 spot on the free charts with Angry Birds Seasons. The game was updated on March 7 with 15 new levels inspired by the Japanese cherry blossom festival. Tilt Racing - This week the No. 20 spot belongs to a brand new app from independent developer TerranDroid. Already at over a million installs since its release at the beginning of March, Tilt Racing features six different race modes, 10 different tracks and six different cars to choose from. Players can choose between accelerometer and touch pad controls. Flashlight - The Intellectual Flame Co’s flashlight app, Flashlight closes our free charts in the No. 22 position. The app was last updated on March 16 with minor bug fixes. This week’s top paid Android Apps Shadowgun - Sci-fi shooter Shadowgun is this week’s No. 6 paid Android app. Weighing in at a relatively pricey $4.99, Madfinger Games’ story of corrupt intergalactic corporations and the bounty hunters they hire to do their dirty work was last updated on Jan. 27 with four new levels, a new gun, new collectibles and a new soundtrack. Quell Reflect - Moving down to the No. 12 spot we find the $0.99 Quell Reflect. Billed by developer Fallen Tree Games as a zen puzzler, the game features more than 80 levels. Dead Space - Space proves to be a popular theme on the paid charts this week with EA’s sci-fi horror game Dead Space taking the No. 14 spot. The game $6.99 game promises a “gripping, bone chilling experience” and boasts a fully voice-acted soundtrack. The Android version of the game also features two exclusive new weapons, the Plasma Saw and the Core Extractor. Business Calendar - Utilities make a single appearance in this week’s Android roundup in the No. 18 position with Appgenix Software’s app Business Calendar. The $4.99 app has been installed more than 100,000 times. They Need to be Fed - Last but not least, YoYo Games closes our charts in the No. 24 position with its unique 360 degree gravity based platformer, They Need to be Fed. Priced at $1.10, the game challengers players to run, jump and navigate through seven worlds of constant gravity in a quest to feed some very hungry monsters. The game has more than 80 levels and includes 36 achievements and more than 200 collectible diamonds to find.
