Emerging popular Android apps: Airport City, Bow Man and Pro Zombie Soccer

There wasn’t much variation at the top of any Android chart this week. DeNA’s Rage of Bahamut was once again the top grossing app, and the top positions on the free and paid charts were all dominated by utilities and games we’ve seen many times before. Despite the relatively slow rate of change at the top, the lower reaches of the top 50 showed much more variety this week, with new apps from CanadaDroid, K-Factor Media and Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team showing up for the first time on our roundup. This week’s top grossing Android apps Airport City -- Game Insight’s Airport City is the highest ranked top grossing app we’ll cover this week. The game is currently sitting in the No. 14 spot on the top grossing app charts and has seen a big boost to its popularity recently. The app has been downloaded over 1 million times and it was last updated on June 6, adding a new industrial building and decreasing the amount of effort required to unlock new flights. Fashion Story -- Moving all the way down to the No. 34 spot we find Team Lava’s Fashion Story. The free-to-play title has lost a little of its steam in 2012 and isn’t charting as highly as it used to, but downloads have been increasing over the past 30 days, so the app could be making a comeback. Dream Zoo -- Zynga’s Dream Zoo takes the No. 39 spot this week, boosted back up the top grossing charts by a June 5 update that added a new underwater habitat and aquatic animals to collect. According to the title’s Google Play listing, the new animals in the game were chosen by popular vote, which could have helped re-engage the app’s userbase. Fish Live -- Independent developer CanadaDroid makes our list this week in the No. 45 position with it’s free-to-play aquarium sim Fish Live. The game has been downloaded more than 1 million times. Coin Dozer -- Finally Game Circus closes out our top grossing app roundup in the No. 47 spot with Coin Dozer, an app based on the simple coin dozer machines found in amusement parks and arcades. In order to boost the game’s replay value, Game Circus added collectible puzzle pieces to the app on June 10. This week’s top free Android apps Bow Man -- Aifei’s simple but popular archery game Bow Man is this week’s No. 24 most popular free Android app. The game has two modes, single play bird hunting and a VS mode that can be played with a friend or an AI. MyCalendar Free -- Utilities hit our chart in the No. 29 position with K-Factor Media’s MyCalendar Free. Released on June 14, the app has already seen more than 500,000 installs. Originally a popular Facebook app, the utility allows users to import birthday data from Facebook and add them to their phone's contacts. Users can also choose to receive push notification reminders for specific birthdays. Draw Something Free -- Zynga’s Draw Something Free continues to slide down the Android charts, settling at No. 35 this week. The game was last updated on June 12 and has been downloaded more than 10 million times on Android. Death Racing -- Moving all the way down to the No. 45 spot we find Feelingtouch’s Death Racing, a top-down 3D racer with clean and slick graphics. The free-to-play game was released earlier this month and has already racked up more than 1 million downloads. The paid version of the game, Death Racing Pro is currently on sale for $0.99. Speed Moto -- Another racing game just squeaks onto our Android charts in the No. 50 spot this week. OoO’s SpeedMoto is also a top-down 3D racing game, that's similar to Death Racing, but switches cars for motorcycles. This week’s top paid Android apps Great little War Game -- We start our roundup of popular paid Android apps at No. 39 this week with Rubicon Development’s turn-based strategy game Great Little War Game. The $2.99 app was last updated on May 16 to improve stability and roll out bug fixes. The game features both campaign and multiplayer modes, and proudly boasts it contains no zombies or birds -- a nod to some overused mobile game tropes. Epidemic -- Next on our list we find the No. 41 ranked Epidemic. The $0.99 game challenges players to create a virus that can wipe out humanity. Pro Zombie Soccer -- Speaking of zombies, they’ve turned up in the No. 44 spot on the paid Android app chart this week in the form of Pro Zombie Soccer. Developed by the delightfully named Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team, Pro Zombie Soccer mashes up zombies, sports and weapons like death rays. The humor packed game costs $1.99. Nova Launcher Prime -- Utility Nova Launcher Prime takes the No. 46 spot this week. The $3.99 app is a homescreen replacement utility for phones running Android 4.0+. Riptide GP -- Last, but not least, Vector Unit’s older game Riptide GP takes the No. 50 spot on the top grossing Android charts this week. The $1.99 game boasts console quality graphics, realistic water physics and real-time reflections on duel core Android devices. The game has been installed over 100,000 times.
