India’s bandwagon against Internet.org’s Free Basics offerings has a new passenger: Egypt.
AP reported that Internet.org Free Basics, which had been in use by more than 3 million Egyptians, was shut down Wednesday, but the reasons why were unclear.
Facebook told AP it hoped to “resolve the situation soon,” adding:
We’re disappointed that Free Basics will no longer be available in Egypt. More than 1 million people who were previously unconnected had been using the Internet because of these efforts.
