Edelman Acquires Vollmer

Edelman has acquired Vollmer Public Relations, “the largest independent PR firm based in the Southwest,” according to the press release. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vollmer’s Austin, Dallas, and New York operations will be merged with Edelman. The firm will also establish a Houston hub, Edelman Southwest, which will serve Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Kansas. There will be 50 pros working out of the office with $9 million in annual revenue for the Texas region.

Vollmer was founded by Helen Vollmer in 1981 with specialties including energy, issues management, and travel and hospitality. Clients include Travelocity, City of Houston, Sabre Holdings, and Comcast Houston.

Helen Vollmer will become president of Edelman southwest reporting to Nancy Ruscheinski, president and COO of Edelman U.S. Edelman Texas GM Teresa Henderson will serve as EVP, GM of the Dallas office, sharing duties for the Austin office with Vollmer’s Denisha Stevens, now the EVP of consumer marketing for the region. Vollmer’s Carolyn Mayo has been named EVP and GM in Houston, and Vollmer COO Allen Caudle has been named EVP of crisis and issues for the region. There will be no cuts or layoffs.

Edelman has been in Texas for 30 years with clients including Waste Management, LIVESTRONG and the American Petroleum Institute. In a video accompanying the announcement, CEO Richard Edelman says the acquisition is the result of a “courtship that began 20 years ago.”

This is the third acquisition for Edelman this year. The previous two were Significa in Brazil and the Center in Brussels.
