Ed Schultz Slut-Gate Forges on But Should it Die?

MSNBC Host Ed Schultz has apologized to Conservative Commentator Laura Ingraham for calling her a “slut” on his Tuesday radio program. He has agreed to a brief unpaid leave and Ingraham has accepted his apology.

End of story, right?

Well, wrong. Not when others haven’t finished chewing on that word “slut.”

The ladies of ABC’s “The View” weighed in this morning, with the revelation that Joy has called Barbara a “slut” on the show. But apparently that’s the funny use of “slut,” the ladies concluded, so who cares? Elizabeth was adamant that the National Organization for Women is going to get fired up about it. Whoopi, meanwhile, was more affected by weight loss fiber pills being pushed by Dr. Oz. The catch? They cause major gas.

FNC’s Greta Van Susteren, who has the 10 p.m. time slot opposite Schultz, gave her two cents on her blog today. Her view may surprise folks: “Let it go,” she wrote this morning. “No one died, someone just acted really boorish.” She also had a warning: “I think he got the message. It is easy to jump him if you don’t like him but remember that the next really stupid thing could be said by someone you like.” But Greta isn’t Schultz’s guardian angel. She stressed, “PS: I am not suggesting you watch him (watch ON THE RECORD at 10pm!) — only that you let it go because his apology seems genuine.”

But Media Research Center Prez Brent Bozell, a conservative activist, isn’t ready to give up “slut” so soon. “His apology was full, unequivocal and a breath a fresh air,” he said in a statement sent to FishbowlDC. “We wish Ed would have shown the same remorse when saying we should ‘rip out’ Dick Cheney’s heart, when he called Liz Cheney ‘shooter’s little girl,’ or when he said Republicans enjoyed watching people with cancer die. MSNBC should have demanded apologies for the litany of offenses in Ed’s past.”
