eBook Downloads To Grow Faster Than Mobile Apps By 2013

U.S. eBook sales are expected to grow from $313 million in 2009 to $2.7 billion by 2013, according to a new report from the Yankee Group.

The report, called “2011 E-Book Forecast: Get Set for the Next Best-Seller,” found that eBook downloads will grow faster than mobile app downloads in the next two years. The Group predicts that eBook downloads will grow at an 83% CAGR by 2013, while paid mobile app downloads will grow at a 72% CAGR during the same period. U.S.

The report also found that eBook sales will grow, and U.S. consumers will purchase about 381 million eBooks in 2013, four times that purchased in 2010. The Group also estimates that eBook prices will drop. By 2013, the average eBook will retail for $7, down from an average of more than $9 in 2009.
