Early Details Leaked on HP’s New Tablet – the TouchPad

HP is scheduled to hold an event in a couple hours. HP didn’t release an solid details on what it was planning to announce, but everyone pretty much assumed that we’d see a WebOS tablet today.

The wait is over. The smartphone blog Precentral.net snuck in to the conference room while it was still be set up. The bloggers managed to pick up some details by sitting quietly and trying really had not to be noticed.

We now know that HP will be launching the Touchpad today. This is a 9.7″ (1024×768) tablet running WebOS on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU. It has Wifi, Bluetooth, a capacitive touchscreen, and the spec sheet is boasting 8 hours battery life. It should weigh about a pound and a half.

I am a little surprised. Given that WebOS has a much smaller user base than iOS, Android, or Windows, I didn’t really expect HP to release a heavy duty tablet like this. I thought it would be something small and light. On the other hand, small and light has already been conquered by cheap, so there’s not much profit there.
