EA Sports Announces PGA Tour Golf Challenge for Facebook

EA Sports has announced that the will be releasing EA Sports PGA TOUR Golf Challenge, a casual golf game for Facebook that will launch in Winter 2010.

The game doesn’t seem to be developed by Playfish, which immediately begs the question of how the different teams within EA are working together on the EA Sports brands. Games like FIFA Superstars were clearly developed with the help of Playfish, if not entirely by Playfish, whereas this game and the recent Madden NFL Superstars were developed by the On-Demand team at EA Sports Tiburon, the group that is responsible for the majority of EA Sports console titles. I’m not sure what kind of discussions are going on within EA, but I could imagine the Tiburon team being a little disappointed with the static quality of games like FIFA Superstars.

[EA Sports seems to have distanced itself from Tiger and his biceps.]

In any case, the game looks to have all the standard casual game elements, including experience, levels, unlockable golf courses, daily challenges and multiplayer challenges. The gameplay looks to be simplistic, and has one click swinging and easy aiming with a mouse or keyboard. A list of features is below.

  • Easy to play and understand game play mechanics including one-click swing, easy aiming with a mouse or keyboard, an assortment of custom clubs, and a variety of shot types
  • Opportunity to earn golf supremacy on Facebook with daily challenges against Facebook friends and weekly champions crowned
  • Real-time 3D game play using the Unity3D engine
  • Legendary courses, such as Pebble Beach Golf Links, St. Andrews (The Old Course) and TPC Sawgrass
  • Opportunities to customize and accelerate a player’s career via micro-transactions

We’ll let you know more about the game when it’s released.
