Does This Really Surprise Anyone?

A copy editor with 15 years of experience in the field took a buyout from the Ann Arbor News (which shut down last year and went mostly-web-only, with 250 staffers ultimately out of work). She wanted to get out of journalism because she saw the writing on the wall.

You can read all about her experience as a legal assistant on Poynter.org.

But here’s what we felt like pointing out:

She has 15 years of experience as a copy editor and is starting at the bottom in a new field.

We’re thinking that a lawyer-turned copy editor would have taken a much bigger pay cut than twenty grand.
