Does Matthews Have Restless Leg Syndrome?

latlegnerves.jpg Last night MSNBC’s now unfortunately-named show “Hardball” got a dose of Chris Matthews’s hardball (and we mean this in a good way) feelings for President Obama.

After playing a video clip of Obama talking about hope – (“No dream is beyond our grasp if we reach for it and fight for it and work for it.”) – Matthews had this reaction.

MATTHEWS: “You know, I get the same thrill up my leg all over me every time I hear those words. I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen. That’s me. He’s talking about my country, and nobody does it better.”

You’d think the leg situation would stop there. But no. Later in the interview, Matthews’s guest, Jim Kessler, co-founder of the progressive think tank, Third Way, brought up the leg thrill again.

KESSLER: “Yes. I mean, look, you talked about the tingle up your leg. I mean –“
(Laughter, crosstalk)
MATTHEWS: “It wasn’t a tingle up my leg. That’s what right-wing fascists–“
And a few seconds later, more.
MATTHEWS: “I got a thrill.”

We hear you loud, hard and clear Matthews. But we think you may have restless leg syndrome. Rest assured, we are in no way qualified to diagnose you or anyone. Back in February of 2008, Matthews got that same thrill and remarked, “I felt this thrill going up my leg” as Obama spoke. “I mean, I don’t have that too often.”
