DLG Media Hires First Circulation Director, Web Editor

DLG Media Holdings, LLC, publisher of Philadelphia STYLE and DC STYLE, has appointed Lori Birney as its first circulation director, effective October 2, and Sarah Schmalbach as Web editor, also a first time position. Birney, a veteran of The Washingtonian magazine and former circulation director for MetroCorp, publisher of Philadelphia and Boston magazines, is charged with building Philadelphia STYLE and DC STYLE's circulation base, improving newsstand sales and efficiency, increasing advertising revenue and reducing expenses. Birney also joins DLG Media's Executive Board. In her most recent position, she was circulation director at the New York office of San Francisco-based Future US, a leading publisher of special-interest magazines and Web sites, where she developed annual budgets, managed circulation, and planned and analyzed subscriptions for a number of music publications. After completing a degree in advertising from Pennsylvania State University, Birney became subscription manager at The Washingtonian. She moved on to become a circulation manager for Cardinal Business Media in Fort Washington, PA, maintaining circulation for six publications, planning promotions and preparing budgets. In 1997, Birney became subscription manager at MetroCorp in Philadelphia, and worked her way up to circulation director. After nine years at MetroCorp, Birney moved to New York to take the post as circulation director for Future US. Schmalbach comes to DLG from Main Line Today, where she was assistant editor, and is charged with the content and continuity of all three of DLG Media's Web sites (DCStyleMag.com, PhillyStyleMag.com and ACConfidential.com) as well as managing the site's interactive channels, including 'blogs, podcasts and streaming video.
