Will You Join The Disconnect Revolution? Turn Off Your Laptop & Cell Phone on October 2

‘Day To Disconnect’ and is calling on people all over the world to disconnect from their cell phones and laptops for at least one hour on Sunday October 2, 2011. Will you join the revolution?

In this day and age we are all uber-connected—we’re glued to our computers at work and at home, and when we’re on the go we’ve got our mobile devices and cell phones to keep us updated on new emails, tweets and news.  If we don’t have access to phones or the Internet we feel naked and we only feel better once we’re reunited with our laptops and devices.  One group is saying, “Enough is enough!”

Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein of Ohr Naava has launched a new initiative—it’s called the ‘Day To Disconnect’ and is calling on people all over the world to disconnect from their cell phones and laptops, social media and emails for at least one hour on Sunday October 2, 2011.

The goal of ‘Day To Disconnect’ is to accumulate at least 1 million hours on October 2 in which people have disconnected from technology and taken the time to connect with friends and family.  They ask on the Day To Disconnect website, “Can you visualize the amount of good accomplished during this time?  Can you feel the impact of couples taking a walk together basking in nature and fully focused on one another?  Can you see the glee in the hearts of the children who share their dreams, hopes and fears with honestly attentive parents?  Can you see the intensity of the laugh lines on grandparents’ faces as they passionately share stories of yesteryear uninterrupted by texting?  Can you imagine one hours without obsessively checking your cell for messages?”

Well can you?  Will you consider signing up to disconnect for a few hours on October 2?  Or will you remain glued to your technology like the people at the beginning of the video below?
