Digital circular shopping app Retale crosses one million downloads in first 78 days


There’s still room for popular new shopping apps on mobile devices, as Bonial International Group’s Retale has reached over one million downloads in its first 78 days of availability. The app gives users a chance to browse weekly print circulars based on location, removing the need to buy the paper every Sunday.

Retale launched with support for 20 retailers, but now includes content from more than 50, including Macy’s, Target, Kohl’s and Toys ‘R’ Us. Users can browse ads as they would in the real world, flipping through pages at their leisure, while a search function also allows shoppers to search for product names or brands.

The app supports shopping lists, coupon clipping, browsing store information including telephone numbers and addresses, and even allows users to receive alerts when stores start new promotions or when a current offer is about to expire.

“As consumers evolve their shopping behaviors to include online and mobile, retailers are expanding their content distribution strategies to engage those shoppers,” said Pat Dermody, President of Retale. “Retale allows retailers to extend one of their most important advertising tools, the circular, into the mobile space where users can see the full story of retailers’ weekly features and deals.”

According to a recent report from Mobidia, 66 percent of ‘advanced’ mobile consumers use their shopping apps to receive coupons, product reviews and more. The number is only expected to increase as users continue to move from traditional print to digital.

“The circular has always been the driver for retailers to get consumers into local stores,” added Dermody. “The fact that Retale has 1 million users just 78 days after launching is a strong sign that the circular is equally attractive via mobile.”

Released on October 28, the Retale app has hit the No. 1 spot on Google Play, and has reached the overall Top Ten of free apps on Apple’s App Store.
