Despite Being Pummeled In Print, Scientific American Beats Online Odds

We told you last week that Scientific American was hit hard by the ad slump—in fact, its June 2009 ad pages are down more than 50 percent from last year.

But, according to Media Industry Newsletter, while traffic to magazine web sites is up an average of 7.2 percent in Q1 2009 versus 2008, SciAm.com is showing a whopping 46.84 percent growth in page views and 29.24 percent unique visitor growth. Media Industry Newsletter tells us that it’s due to better SEO, which increased their search referrals by 86 percent. Dang.
