Design Your Own Hotel

issue-12-small.jpgIt would appear that just about everyone (Missoni, Todd Oldham, Christian Lacroix, etc.) else has, so why not you? At least you’ll have all the amenities you need (a bottomless Diet Coke machine and a personal swimming pool for the master suite would head up my list). You could even use really great fabric for your drapes (I’d use Amy Butler’s fabulous fibers) and Angela Adam‘s truly mod rugs and a one-of-a-kind quilt from Denyse Schmidt. Properly coordinated, you could have a room that’s worthy of a write up in Architectural Digest.

For more on this trend, read up issue no. 13 of Selvedge, which is still on U.S. newsstands. We were especially intrigued to hear about Irish milliner Philip Treacy’s design for G Hotel. If Mr. Treacy can do for hotels what he has done for chapeaux, we think the hospitality industry is in superb shape. (Incidentally, Treacy designed Camilla Parker-Bowles’ wedding hat.)
