David L. Wolper, Producer of 'Roots,' Dead at 82

Film and television producer David L. Wolper died at his gome in Beverly Hills on August 10. The cause of death was congestive heart failure and Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

During his long and accomplished career, Wolper produced over 300 films and television shows, among them “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “L.A. Confidential,” “Welcome Back, Kotter,” and the National Geographic documentary “The World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.” But he is best known for the TV miniseries “Roots.”
