The Daily Dot Convinces Amy Vernon to Return to the Full-Time Journalism Fold

She started Wednesday as director of audience development.

Veteran journalist Amy Vernon had carved out a lucrative new career as an independent consultant. Companies she helped advise on matters such as traffic generation and community building include the American Museum of Natural History, AOL and VentureBeat.

“A news organization had to be special to get me to come back,” she says. Slow clap for the The Daily Dot, where Vernon started Wednesday as director of audience engagement. From this week’s announcement:

Vernon is an award-winning reporter with tenure at a host of news organizations that include The Miami Herald, during which time she was a member of the Pulitzer Prize-winning staff honored for its coverage of Hurricane Andrew.
