So fickle are Hollywood gadflies that they can’t even decide whether they want to worship a celebrity or tear him a new one. In the push-and-pull of the Tom Cruise affair, it seems Tom is emerging as the Top Gun once again. Not only does he have a new deal, but media folk are even starting to defend him.

goes so far as to say in the Huffington Post that Cruise’s couch jumping “wasn’t that bad” and his I’m-not-gay earnestness about Katie Holmes was “almost sweet.”
