Country Living Announces First-Ever Blogger Awards

Country Living has announced their their first-ever Annual Blue Ribbon Blogger Awards, to celebrate the best blogs within each of ten categories, including “Decorating,” “Food,” “Crafting,” “Collecting,” “Gardening,” and “Pets.”

“We are really looking to discover someone who hasn’t had a lot of national attention who we can introduce to a wider audience,” Shelly Ridenour, Executive Editor of Country Living, told FishbowlNY. “Our readers have a really strong online engagement … so it seemed like a natural fit for us to fill our readers in on blogs they might not have heard of.”

Until August 1st, readers can nominate their favorite blogs, and bloggers can nominate themselves. The winners will be honored at a luncheon in New York and be featured in the February 2012 issue of Country Living.

The idea for the awards came out of the Country Living‘s ongoing engagement with blogs, and vice versa. “Bloggers seem to really be inspired by Country Living, and we’re inspired by their creativity,” said Ridenour. “The editors in the office, all day long we’re emailing each other blog posts that we find inspiring, or yelling out from office to office, oh my god, did you see this?”

“Back in March, we ran a story that rounded up some of our favorite craft bloggers, and we had a pretty incredible response to that. A light bulb went on that people really want to see more of this, and we’re really into this, too.”

The judging panel will be made up of Country Living editors and some of the magazine’s favorite bloggers (many of whom also contribute to the magazine), including Sarah McColl, who writes Pink of Perfection, Cooper Boone of, Jodi Kahn of Simply Sublime, Jonathan Butler of Brownstoner, and Eddie Ross of

“We’re looking for great ideas, great design, great writing, and a blogger who engages readers so that they want to check in every day, and can tell a creative story through their post,” Ridenour said. “It’s really the Country Living M.O., a blogger with heart and soul, a sense of fun, and great taste.”
