Comscore: Vevo Shows Tremendous Growth In April 2010

Yesterday Comscore released its monthly Online Video Rankings for April 2010. Not surprisingly Google Sites, which includes YouTube, continues to lead the race in the number of unique visitors as well as the number of videos viewed. However, Vevo made a giant leap forward in terms of unique visitors, putting itself on the map as one of web video’s most influential names.

Compare the Online Video Rankings from March 2010 with the statistics released yesterday and you’ll see that Vevo has jumped ahead four slots in the unique visitor department. Vevo now ranks above Hulu, CBS Interactive, Microsoft Sites and Facebook with nearly 43.6 million unique viewers in April.

Vevo also sustained a slight increase in the number of videos viewed in April, jumping from 331.1 million to 331.7 million. These aren’t bad statistics, considering that the number of video viewers on the web in April actually went down to about 178 million from 180 million the previous month.

It is important to note that Vevo’s video views include viewings from the Vevo channel on YouTube. Vevo has the advantage of being able to provide exclusive music video content from Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group, releasing videos from big stars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Enrique Iglesias, Ke$ha and more. These stars rack up tons of views on YouTube. For instance, Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance has racked up over 217 million views for Vevo on YouTube alone.

Vevo has shown massive growth. The site launched only at the end of 2009 and within six short months is already competing with the biggest names in web video. Already surpassing big names like Hulu, Vevo is expected to continue to grow in the coming months. What do you think about Vevo’s journey up the online video rankings?
