Comic Book Guru Harvey Pekar Dies at 70

Comic book legend and subject of the brilliant 2003 film “American Splendor” Harvey Pekar died today at the age of 70, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Author of the “American Splendor” comic book series, Pekar used to be a frequent guest on David Letterman’s show, often with incredibly awkward, but entertaining results. He leaves behind his wife Joyce Brabner, with whom he co-wrote the book “Our Cancer Year,” after Pekar was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer in 1990.
