Coast to Coast, More to Celebrate Than Just Cinco de Mayo

It’s a big night for several folks in the design and innovation worlds and since Mexico will be getting plenty of attention in the upcoming months, we’re going to focus on a few celebrations that don’t require a 4:30am breakfast at Denny’s.

The Society of Publication Designers have their 41st Awards Gala tonight, where they’ll be doling out the Magazine of the Year and a lifetime achievement award for Art Paul.

We’ll be cuddling up to Will Ferrell at tonight’s LA Modernism Show Gala, which is open to the public tomorrow and Sunday.

And over at the National Inventors Hall of Fame, in Akron, Ohio, this weekend will see the induction of 21 inventors, 8 living and 13 posthumously. This year’s inventors include Robert Gore of GORE-TEX fame, the guys who really invented the internet (TCP/IP to be exact), and the father of the birth control pill. We could come up with a million great jokes for that last one, but we’ll abstain.
