CNN Digital Posts Strong February

The short month of February wasn’t long enough for CNN Digital, as it posted strong numbers across the board in terms of traffic, video, and mobile traffic, according to Nielsen and Omniture.

CNN Digital said it had 44.1 million unique visitors in February, nearly 10 million more than MSNBC Digital when its section devoted to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games from Vancouver was excluded, according to a Nielsen custom report.

And on the day Chile was rocked by a massive earthquake, Feb. 27, totaled 9.9 million unique visitors, up 62 percent compared with the previous four Saturdays, and 10.2 million video starts, representing a 429 percent leap over average video usage the previous four Saturdays.

For the month, CNN Digital finished first in: total minutes at 957 million, 30 million more than No. 2 Wikipedia and 127 million more than No. 3 MSNBC Digital; share at 8 percent, one point ahead of No. 3 MSNBC Digital; time per person at 21.7 minutes, 3.3 minutes more than No. 2 MSNBC Digital and six minutes more than No. 3 The Weather Channel; and page views with 1.5 billion, 343 million more than No. 2 MSNBC Digital and 849 million more than No. 3 Yahoo! News.

As far as video, according to Nielsen VideoCensus, CNN Digital was tops in video streams with 152 million, 12 million more than No. 2 MSNBC Digital and 92 million more than No. 3 Yahoo! News.

And more good news came from Nielsen Mobile MediaView: CNN Digital’s 14.2 million unique mobile visitors in January beat nearest competitor Yahoo! News by 187 percent, marking the 37th consecutive month that CNN Digital topped the news and current events category.
