63-Year-Old LA Times Alum Gets Vegas Promotion

Looking for a feel-good story about the battered and bruised print media world? Beyond the current Tribune Co. bankruptcy proceedings and Orange County Register auction, 63-year-old industry veteran Charlie Waters keeps on chugging.

Over the weekend, the Las Vegas Review-Journal quietly announced that Waters has been promoted as of Friday to the post of assistant managing editor. Not bad for a guy who joined the company as a fresh-faced 59-year-old:

Waters started Stephens Media four years ago as director of editorial support services, working with editors and reporters at the company’s daily newspapers in Las Vegas and across the country.

Waters, University of Arizona class of 1969, has previously worked as an executive editor at the LA Times Sunday Magazine, the Fresno Bee, and The Reno Gazette-Journal.
