Charlie Sheen’s Publicist Jumps Ship

TMZ reports today that Charlie Sheen’s longtime publicist Stan Rosenfield quit following a live interview that aired on the website from Sheen’s patio. Among the gems called out on Slate: “Every plan I have is the best plan in the room.” This follows segments that ran this morning on Today and GMA. On NBC, he said about CBS execs, “They picked a fight with a warlock.”

So perhaps it was a good move by Rosenfield.

According to TMZ, Rosenfield decided to quit following an “insinuation” in the live interview (which you can view here) that Rosenfield lied about the incident in The Plaza Hotel last year. At the time, Rosenfield said Sheen was hospitalized after an allergic reaction.

In a post after the resignation announcement, TMZ quotes Sheen: “P**sy. He’s not allowed to quit, so you’re fired.”

Rosenfield said in a statement sent to the LA Times Show Tracker blog, “I have worked with Charlie Sheen for a long time and I care about him very much. However, at this time, I’m unable to work effectively as his publicist and have respectfully resigned.” The post says that Rosenfield worked with Sheen for about seven years.

It’s not too often that a publicist quits a client, though certainly not unheard of. Here in the Mediabistro offices, one of our colleagues made the point that you can’t help someone who won’t be helped. In this case, that absolutely seems to be the case.

Since quitting, TMZ has posted another story saying that Sheen has sent his lawyer after Warner Brothers and CBS, demanding millions.
