Cesar Chavez Biopic In the Works

Interesting news from The Hollywood Reporter, Screenwriter Keir Pearson and Larry Meli have optioned the screen rights to the life of Mexican-American labor leader and community organizer Cesar Chavez.

Pearson, who will write the feature screenplay, is producing with Meli for Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna’s Mexico-based Canana Films. The rights were controlled and granted by the Cesar Chavez Foundation; negotiations were handled by Chavez’s son, Paul.

The film should be good hands with Pearson, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for the 2005 film “Hotel Rwanda.”
