Supermodel Returns to the Scene of the Salvador Dali Crime

For her latest cover assignment, Carmen Dell'Orefice revisited the St. Regis Hotel

Carmen1947VogueCoverCarmen Dell’Orefice has been covering magazines for a long time. At right is the Vogue issue she graced in 1947, at age 15.

A few summers ago, when Dell’Orefice was on the front of You magazine, The Huffington Post led with the observation that the cover “was unlikely to be her last.” They were right. At age 83, she graces the cover of New You’s latest issue. From the New You tease:

We meet for an intimate chat at the tony St. Regis Hotel in New York — coincidentally, the location of her first modeling job, posing for Salvador Dali at age 13. Everyone is transfixed by her presence – those arresting cheekbones; her signature, full-bodied white hair; long and graceful limbs; that exquisite smile. Yet I’m invited past the façade. The outsides are the brand known as “Carmen,” which belie the modest soul that lives inside her.

The Spring Issue article is behind a paywall, which we full approve of. The New You folks can’t be too pleased* with today’s Daily Mail coverage. The UK paper essentially reveals the entire contents of the interview and shares, by the looks of it, most if not all of the photos.

A funny side note regarding the Mail pick-up: one of the article sub-headlines reads, ‘The 83-year-old candidly discusses her active sex life, though declines to mention any names.’ You can almost hear the Mail SEO department’s disappointment.

[*Editor’s Note: We heard after publication from a rep for New You magazine. They wanted to let us know that the Daily Mail piece was done with the full cooperation of the magazine.]
