Caribu brings families together over long distances for storytime on iPad

Caribu has announced the release of its Caribu iPad storytime app, aimed at allowing separated family members to never miss storytime while they’re apart. If mom or dad are on a business trip, or if grandma and grandpa live in another state, the app allows little ones to connect with the most important people in their lives and read stories together in real time.

The Caribu app allows family members to connect with children via real-time video chat, seeing and sharing their progress in each eBook via synchronized page turning and a pointer for kids to follow along. The app comes with one free book, with additional titles available via in-app purchase for $2.99 in the US or £1.99 in the UK.

Caribu offers an offline reading mode when users are in the same room, and children can pick their desired book via large images on their virtual bookshelf. The app also supports video-only mode outside of stories.

“We wanted to create an app thats helps families defy long distances. So many families are separated these days, with divorce, travel, and even longer working hours, families are spending less time together. This app is about bringing families together through technology, and allowing them to share important moments in their days, like bedtime stories – wherever they are in the world” said Caribu Co-Founder and MD, Ben Mallett.

The Caribu app is available to download for free on iPad, and requires iOS 7 or later. Check back soon to follow Caribu on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
