The one and only Captain Kirk was tweeting, real-time, with an astronaut in outer space this past week.

Actor William Shatner, the Canadian actor who portrayed the iconic captain of the Starship Enterprise on TV’s “Star Trek,” hailed Canada’s soon-to-be first space station commander on Twitter to find out the latest news from orbit.

Shatner tweeted to Canadian Space Agency astronaut Chris Hadfield:

Shortly thereafter, Hadfield responded from the International Space Station:

Buzz Aldrin got in on the convo, too:

As of today, Hadfield has 85,000 Twitter followers, and growing.
