Say Hello to <em>Capitol File's</em> New Editor-in-Chief

Capitol File is finally announcing its new Editor-in-Chief. It's Elizabeth Thorp. President and COO Katherine Nicholls and Editorial Director Mandi Norwood made the official announcement this morning. Others considered for the position included former Washington Life's former executive Michael Clements, who is now the "Chief Creative Enabler" of ArtJamz, LLC and Aspen Institute's Karen Sommer Shalett, former editor of DC Magazine. "Capitol File is a unique combination of sophistication, urban glamour and high society," Thorp told FishbowlDC. "As a reader and contributor since its launch 8 years ago, I am thrilled to take the helm as Editor in Chief." She said she definitely plans to bring new contributors on board. Thorp brings more than 21 years of experience in public affairs and editorial to the magazine. She has contributed to HuffPost, National Geographic as well as Capitol File. She also created Poshbrood.com, an award-winning, upscale family travel website. "We are delighted to appoint Elizabeth as Editor in Chief and pass the mantle to carry Capitol File into the future,” said Nicholls in a statement. “Her relationships within the core of the Washington, DC power circles will serve to connect Capitol File to the most influential people, events and initiatives in Washington.” Thorp, for her part, said in the release, “I’m thrilled to join Capitol File magazine. I've lived in Washington, DC for half my life and can't wait to showcase the politics, style, philanthropy, food and culture that define our vibrant and sophisticated capital city." Norwood added, “Elizabeth is a highly regarded leader who brings an insider’s perspective to the rarefied media community of Washington where politics, style, pop culture and luxury intersect. We look forward to her unique infusion of high brow content to each issue of Capitol File.”
