Can a $49.99 iPad App Succeed? Actually, Yes

Here’s more fuel for my preoccupation with prices related to the Apple iPad:

OmniGraffle To Be Part Of The iPad App Store Grand Opening, But Is $49.99 Too Much To Pay? (AppAdvice)

I’m still going with the notion that e-things for the iPad will be priced at or near $9.99. So, you might think that I’d dismiss Omni Group’s decision to price their Omni Graffle diagramming tool ported to the iPad at $49.99. Surely, that is too high and too far away from my $9.99 mark. Right?

That would be true for most e-things. But, there are always exceptions to the rule. And, Omni Graffle might be one because of its existing fan base on the Mac. Microsoft has never ported its Visio diagramming tool to the Mac. The Open Source Dia is functional but not pretty. I can’t say I know a lot of people who use Omni Graffle. But, I can say that the ones that have made comments about it to me have all had good things to say about it.

At $49.99 for the iPad version, it is probably not in my purchasing future. But, my guess is that it will be near the top of the paid iPad app charts very soon.

As for myself? I’d like to see a good $9.99 mind mapping iPad app.
