Businessweek: Apple Closing In on Hollywood

mgm.jpgBusinessweek has a good article up about Hollywood’s “worst-kept secret:” Steve Jobs is starting to win over the film industry.

The report is an analysis of all the various angles the negotiations cover: how much to charge for rentals, how much Apple has to pay each studio for each movie, which sounds horrifyingly expensive to us — they’re looking to charge Apple the same price they charge for wholesale, physical copies of DVDs — as well as other details such as how long the rentals last and how long the iTunes Store has to wait after a DVD release before they can offer an online rental.

There’s also the issue of the Apple TV, which needs a significant boost in video and audio quality to look good enough for today’s high-definition-capable plasma and LCD TVs.
