Budget Travel Takes Reader Interaction To A New Level

budget_october_9.14.10.jpgArthur Frommer’s Budget Travel is ensuring its nearly 3 million monthly readers and website visitors play an integral part in shaping its content. Its October 2010 issue, for instance, is based entirely on an online reader poll — that’s right, every single editorial item in the issue is based on the poll.

The magazine’s 1st “Readers’ Choice Awards” had participants answer a 28-category poll in order to determine the most important products, tips, companies and destinations for travel — not to mention readers’ least favorite airline (for me, it’s a seven-way tie).

Budget Travel will continue providing polls with their “Ultimate Packing Smackdown,” sponsored by American Tourister. That poll will focus specifically on creative and efficient methods readers use to pack for their trips, with one participant eventually being voted the “The World’s Best Packer” by readers from among ten finalists. The grand prize for the most effective sock-roller and underwear-folder includes a six-night trip for two to Egypt and a new set of American Tourister luggage. Not too shabby at all.
