Boxee for iPad Available. Not Much There

Boxee is a combination of Open and Closed Software that has, up to now, provided a way for someone to easily find and view Internet videos on a large screen HD TVs. The software runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. There’s also a commercial ready-to-use hardware product named Boxee Box (manufactured by D-Link) that attaches to a TV.

The new Boxee for iPad promises to bring videos from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and your computer all onto your ipad so you can find and watch new videos or favorites.

Boxee for iPad (iTunes App Store)

I provided login info for both my Twitter and Facebook accounts to the Boxee for iPad app. And, yet, after many hours of waiting, not a single video shared in the streams of data for those social networks have appeared in Boxee’s app. The how to get started with Boxee video that was in my “Watch Later” list does not play because it points to a Howcast video in Adobe Flash format. And, there are only 15 videos in the featured list with no apparent way to search for and add more videos to view. Its main feature may be the ability to play videos stored on a desktop computer. But, that is not something I have a particular need for.

I’m not impressed by what I’ve seen so far. You can learn more about the Boxee for iPad app here:
