Borrowing an Idea from NYC, City of Philadelphia Launches Condom Wrapper Design Contest

Taking a page from New York City’s high-profile and popular Yves Behar-designed condom wrappers, and the design contest that followed earlier this year, the City of Philadelphia is trying the same. The city’s Department of Public Health has launched the “STD Control Program Condom Art Contest,” asking residents to submit ideas for designs to adorn the custom-labeled condoms distributed by the city. Given the popularity the Behar-designed models received back in 2007, and the hundreds of entries received in the contest in New York earlier this year, as well as the press attention that went with it, it certainly seems like a positive way of getting the word out. If you’re a resident of Philadelphia, you have until January 14th to submit your concept. Winners will be announced shortly thereafter, in February, and the person whose work is selected will receive $250 (and likely, we’re guessing, condoms for life).
