Viral Radar: Blind Film Critic Goes To The Batting Cage

Tommy Edison, the Blind Film Critic, has made a name for himself on YouTube in recent months with his reviews of current films, from a blind man’s perspective.  He has reviewed everything from Bad Teacher to Green Lantern, Super 8, X-Men First Class and The Hangover 2.  But today Tommy the Blind Film Critic is going viral for a video that’s completely unrelated to his movie reviews.  He’s climbing the charts with a video of himself visiting the batting cage.  That’s right—a blind man visiting the batting cage!

Before we get to the video, I wanted to provide a bit of background on Tommy, because he truly is incredible.  Blind since birth, he is described on his website as “the movie critic who has actually never seen a movie.”  Tommy explains that, “I watch movies and pay attention to them in a different way than sighted people do.  I’m not distracted by all the beautiful shots and attractive people.  I watch a movie for the writing and acting.”  I love the sense of humor that Tommy brings to his reviews.  For instance, he starts his X-Men First Class review out by saying, “To enjoy this movie you need a couple of things.  You have to be able to speak German and French, be able to read, oh yeah, and not be blind.”

Tommy Edison isn’t only known as the Blind Film Critic.  He has also been working in radio for more than 20 years.  For the past 16 years he has worked as the traffic reporter at Star 99.9 FM in Connecticut.

In addition to movie reviews, Tommy’s YouTube channel hosts a variety of videos about a Day in the Life of a Blind Man, and the video that’s going viral today is one of these.  Watch as Tommy attempts to hit a home run in the video below.  I’ll be honest, I think he does better than many sighted people.

I think Tommy is an incredibly inspiring person.  How about you?  Let us know what you think of his film reviews, as well as his trip to the batting cage, in the comments below.
