Bellantoni Snags Roll Call's Top Edit Job

FishbowlDC has learned that Roll Call alum Christina Bellantoni will leave her post as Political Editor of PBS Newshour and return to the Capitol Hill rag as Editor-in-Chief. When she departed Roll Call in 2010, Bellantoni held the position of Associate Politics Editor. "This feels like coming home. I'm so excited about becoming Editor-in-Chief of Roll Call, which still proudly acts as the pulse of Capitol Hill in the must-read spirit Sid Yudain envisioned nearly 60 years ago," Bellantoni said in a release the company will issue at noon today. "Roll Call is the best brand in the business of covering Congress and boasts a talented team I can't wait to work with once more." Prior to her first stint at Roll Call, Christina served as White House Correspondent for Talking Points Memo and before that, The Washington Times. (December 2, 2013) — CQ Roll Call, an Economist Group business, announced today that Christina Bellantoni has been named Editor-in-Chief of Roll Call, the news source of Capitol Hill since 1955. Bellantoni returns to Roll Call after spending two years as Political Editor of PBS Newshour. She will oversee all editorial print and digital platforms for Roll Call with a charge to drive digital growth, expand online content and engagement, and reach new audiences. Bellantoni will be reporting to David Rapp, Chief Content Officer of CQ Roll Call and outgoing Roll Call editor. “I am thrilled to be bringing Christina back to Roll Call,” Rapp said. “She has the experience and the leadership skills we want to take our high-octane staff to the next level of excellence and our publications to the next level of service for our readers on Capitol Hill. Bellantoni was Associate Politics Editor at Roll Call during the 2010 midterm elections, and helped the organization grow its social media following. She wrote big-picture political stories and worked with the team to expand presidential campaign coverage. She has covered all aspects of politics in Washington, working as a White House correspondent for both Talking Points Memo and The Washington Times. She started at the Times in December 2003 covering Virginia state politics, androse through the newsroom while writing about national politics, Congress and the 2008 presidential campaign. At Talking Points Memo, Bellantoni helped establish the Washington bureau and got the outlet into the White House press pool. She began her journalism career in 1998 covering business in her home state of California. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and led a study group for undergraduate students as a fall 2011 Institute of Politics Fellow at Harvard University's Kennedy School. Bellantoni regularly appears on network and cable television as a political analyst. She also is a Contributing Editor for More Magazine and is a frequent guest host for the “Kojo Nnamdi” show on WAMU as well as “The Press Pool” on Sirius/XM. Sheserves as a board member for the Washington Press Club Foundation and plays on the “Bad News Babes” press team in the annual Congressional Women's Softball Game.
