BBC Unveils iPlayer Radio App

The BBC has launched a new app called the BBC iPlayer Radio app to make it easier to listen to live BBC Radio shows on the go. The app is designed to look like a radio with a virtual dial so that you can spin between channels on the touchscreen. The app is designed for listening to shows live, which will sit along with videos, downloads, and social media feeds.

Some fun features include the ability to set your phone’s alarm with your favorite DJ and the ability to set program reminders. It has social networking functionality, so that you can see what your friends are listening to.  In the coming months, you will have access to more content directly from DJs. So far the app is available for iOS, but an Android version is coming soon.

The iPlayer Radio app comes as the BBC has been seeing significant growth in the mobile sector. Here is more from the BBC blog: “BBC radio listening across mobile and tablet devices has risen significantly over the past 12 months, reflecting growing audience demand for access to content anywhere. Year-on-year, monthly iPlayer requests for radio have increased 56% to 2.8m on mobile, and 300% to 1.2m on tablet.”
