Barnes & Noble Introduces 7″ and 9″ HD Tablets

Barnes & Noble has introduced two new HD tablets to the market place today. The $199 Nook HD is a lightweight 7-inch tablet and  the $269 Nook HD+ is a 9-inch tablet.

The  Nook HD features a high res 1440 x 900 screen with 243 pixels per inch and HD video playback of up to 720p. It weighs 11 ounces and runs a dual-core 1.3GHz high-speed processor. The Nook HD+ has an even more big resolution screen at 1920 x 1280 and 256 pixels per inch. It plays back video in up to 1080p, true HD.

The device weighs 18.2 ounces and runs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. Both are available for pre-order at Preorders are slated to ship November 1st, when the devices are also expected to hit stores. The Digital Reader has more details about the new Nooks.

The tablet market is heating up these days. Earlier this month Amazon introduced a whole line of Kindle Fire HD tablets. Beginning at $159 for the 8GB 7-inch edition, the line includes a $199 16 GB edition of the tablet with a 7″ inch screen, a $299 edition with a 8.9″ screen. These screens have 1900 x 1200 resolution with 254 pixels per inch. Apple is also expected to launch a 7-inch iPad this fall.
