A super low-budget viral video ad for Australian backpacker hostel, 790 on George, is climbing the YouTube charts this week, proving that it is possible to go viral without spending a dime.  The guy that made the video posted it to Reddit saying, “I work at a crappy backpacker hostel.  My boss told me to make an ad with no money.  This is what happened.”

The video hit YouTube on Sunday and went viral almost immediately after being posted on sites like Wired, BuzzFeed and Reddit.  What’s great about this video is that it’s entertaining while actually providing information about the hostel—the room types they offer, the amenities and more.  And, of course, you’ll never forget the name, which also happens to be the address—790 on George in Sydney, Australia.

But we all know the reason this video is going viral.  It’s all about the explosions and the auto-tune.  I think the below comment thread from Reddit says it all.

But in all seriousness, this video is a great example of how it is possible to go viral without a huge budget.  If you’ve got someone on staff with a simple video camera (even a phone camera will do), a basic grasp of video editing, and a talent for coming up with creative ideas, you can put something together that could turn into a viral hit.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that your video will break 100,000 views…but when you haven’t spent loads of money to make the video happen, you’ve really got nothing to lose, right?
