Besides PRNewser, upscale sex toy chain store Babeland received love from over 200 media outlets for their “Free Maverick” giveaway on Election Day, including AdAge, Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008, Wonkette, and on sites in their store markets including the Seattle Times, and Racked & Curbed.

Babeland’s PR person Pamela Doan also told PRNewser their phones rang off the hook with media queries and web traffic popped 54%. They planned to give out 50-100 toys per store (about 1,000) and ended up giving away 4,114. “Additionally, we offered 20% discounts to voters who contacted us and were dismayed because they didn’t live near a store. Another 300 people redeemed the coupon online.” according to Doan.

More after the jump:

She put us in touch with Babeland co-founder Claire Cavanah
too:

“Customers were calling in total disbelief that we were giving out sex toys just for voting! The lines at the registers at the height of the promotion were 50 people deep, and the sales floor of every store felt like a party. By the end we had given out more than 4,000 toys to our delighted customers, and participated in the biggest election day celebration any of us has ever seen!”

“Our customers just really wanted to tell someone that they’d voted, they were so happy about it. They wanted a witness to their participation in a historic, momentous day, and to connect with others who felt the same way.”

That’s one feel-good, mavericky promotion. By cocktail napkin math (our favorite kind), Babeland spent around $25,000 bucks for the day and earned a lot more in publicity, good will, and web traffic. As George Bush might say, they were able to practice their love with their loyal and new customers for a good cause.
