Attention K-Mart Shoppers! Blue Light Special on a $150 Android Tablet Coming Soon

Back in April, I asked:
Whatever Happened to Android Tablets, Chrome OS, MeeGo, & Ubuntu Netbook Remix?
And, I’ve been asking this question regularly since then. The promises of iPad competing tablets and slates at CES have resulted in essentially nothing significant. Yes, Archos launched their Home Tablet Edition running an ancient Android OS 1.5. Yes, Dell appears to be ready to start pre-orders for its Dell Streak 5 any day now.
To my surprise, the first widely available Android based tablet may come from, drum roll, K-Mart. Yes, Blue Light shoppers, a $150 (on sale) Android-based Augen GenTouch 7 (as in 7-inch display) tablet may be appearing at a K-Mart near you this week.
KMart stocks a $150 Android tablet (Liliputing)
– 800×480 pixel display (7-inches)
– 800 MHz processor
– 256MB RAM
– 2GB flash storage
– WiFi
– SD card slot
– Android 2.1
I suspect this device will be sold out as quickly as it comes in. But, I’m planning to hop down to a nearby K-Mart to see if it is available later this week.
