AT&T Slapped With Class Action Suit Over Data Charges

Just as Verizon prepares for iPhone 4 presales, AT&T Mobility has been hit with a class action lawsuit over data charges.

According to the Courthouse News Service, the lawsuit alleges that AT&T overcharges “’…the amount of data used on each data transaction involving an iPhone or iPad account,” and bills customers for data transactions even if they disable their phones and leave them untouched – as the plaintiff’s experts did. The class says AT&T’s billing system ‘is like a rigged gas tank that charges pump that charges for a full gallon when it pumps only nine-tenths of a gallon into your car’s tank.’”

This is not AT&T’s first class action suit. The carrier has been accused of charging for downloads that customers have never made and charging for services it did not deliver.
